Pilbara Ports Authority has awarded the sixth and final major contract for landside civils and landscaping on the Spoilbank Marina project.

The contract includes the construction of the marina roads, car and trailer parking, retaining walls, footpaths, landscaping, public amenities building, shade structures, barbecue areas and the installation of utilities and services.

The contract was awarded to Western Australian business Ertech.

The Western Australia economy is set to benefit, with 95 per cent of contract spend occurring within Western Australia and approximately 30 per cent of that in the Pilbara.

Pilbara Ports Chief Executive Officer, Sam McSkimming, said the landside civils and landscaping would bring the marina vision to life and provide a vibrant community gathering space for Port Hedland locals and visitors to enjoy.

“The final contract award is an exciting milestone that will provide further opportunities for local businesses and contractors to be involved in the project,” Mr McSkimming said.

Ertech has already mobilised to site and will begin construction in July 2023.

The $187.5 million Spoilbank Marina project is a key election commitment from the Western Australia State Government. It is being managed by Pilbara Ports and is jointly funded by the Western Australia State Government, Town of Port Hedland and BHP.

Marina construction is progressing, with the basin excavated and connected to the ocean. Work continues on the breakwaters, new navigation channel and marine structures.

The marina boat ramps are expected to be operational in late 2023, with final completion of remaining marine and landside areas expected in 2024.
