METRONET has released a tender for the work on the extension of the Midland Line to Bellevue and the relocation of Midland Station in Western Australia.

The company has released a tender for for specialist consultants to get involved in the concept planning stages of the project.

It involves the relocation of Midland Station to integrate with surrounding development and the ongoing revitalisation of the Midland Activity Centre, and extending the railway line to Bellevue to enhance access for the surrounding community.

The work will include an options analysis, preliminary land use investigations, planning and concept designs, including any grade separations, stations and surrounding urban precincts, and will be supported by the successful tender.

More tenders for other elements of METRONET will be released progressively between 2017/2018.

Western Australia Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti, said the tender is part of the government’s commitment in the 2017-18 State Budget to plan for key METRONET priority projects, along with construction funding for the Thornlie-Cockburn Link, Yanchep Rail Extension and Forrestfield-Airport Link.

“This project has been on the drawing board for many years but we are committed to making it a reality and this tender is the first step,” Ms Saffioti said.

“Extending the train line to Bellevue and relocating Midland Station means residents from the Swan region to the Hills and beyond will have improved access to the CBD, new stadium and more.”
