Flexible bus services now open in Melbourne

The Victorian Government has opened a new on-demand bus service in the western suburb of Melton South, called FlexiRide, ensuring locals are better connected to railway stations, shopping centres and schools.

FlexiRide services do not have a fixed route, so passengers are able to book a seat via the FlexiRide Melton South app or phone, be directed to the closest bus stop – either a physical or appropriate alternative location – and be picked up and transported to dedicated hubs.

Four new buses will service the area, connecting passengers to the key hubs such as Cobblebank Station, Melton Station, Woodgrove Shopping Centre, Melton Bus Interchange and local schools.

The new flexible service will further improve public transport accessibility for locals who are benefitting from recently completed upgrades at Melton Station.

The station now has a second entrance to platform one, a footpath connecting the new entrance to the Exford Road level crossing, extra seats and shelters on platform one, new CCTV cameras and accessible parking spaces.

On top of these improvements, the Victorian Government’s Car Parks for Commuters program is creating 100 new and upgraded spaces at the station, increasing car parking to 980 spaces and freeing up local streets.

For people wanting to ride their bike to the station instead, a new secure Parkiteer bike cage and 52 new bike hoops will provide another convenient option for commuters.

With construction complete, works will now turn to reinstating the area around the new car park, with the planting of approximately 8,000 new trees, plants, shrubs and grasses.

Other stations in Melbourne’s west are also set for a massive car park boost, with more than 1,600 new and upgraded spaces to be delivered at stations in Caroline Springs, Tarneit, Wyndham Vale and Watergardens.
