Fraser Coast Council opens tenders for road sealing project

Fraser Coast Regional Council is calling for tenders to seal 1.4km of Tinnanbar Road, improving the main access to the seaside village of Sandy Strait with a 8m wide bitumen seal.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Councillor, Daniel Sanderson, said the work is the first part of four stages to seal the road into Tinnanbar.

“It has been a complicated process as the road forged by early residents did not actually follow the road reserve,” Mr Sanderson said.

“To fix the problem, Council has been negotiating with the many Queensland Government departments and HQ Plantations to obtain tenure over the required road reserve area so works could go ahead.”

Mr Sanderson said that the council now has ownership of the road reserve, so they can press ahead on the project that will improve access and safety for residents.

“I pay tribute to my previous Council colleague, Anne Maddern, and Council staff for their efforts in working through the issues with the Queensland Government so the project could go ahead,” Mr Sanderson said.

The first stage covers about 1.4km and will improve the road to Rural Collector standard with the new bitumen.

Funding to complete further stages will be considered as part of future budget deliberations.

It is anticipated that a contractor will be appointed to start work in February 2022.

“If all goes according to plan, and weather permitting, the road works should be finished in July 2022,” Cr Sanderson said.
