South Australia has received a $16 million boost in funding from the Federal Government for the Skilling Australians program.
The funding commitment is on top of the $87 million already allocated to South Australia by the Federal Government under the Skilling Australians program and $100 million of South Australian funding.
Minister for Industry and Skills, David Pisoni, said, “There is a defence jobs tsunami headed towards South Australia and we have the opportunity to ride that wave if we ensure people have the right skills for those jobs.
“By massively increasing funding for apprenticeships and traineeships we will provide opportunities for young South Australians, and those looking to expand their skills, to commence long-term jobs in the defence sector.
“The Marshall Liberal Government has delivered our commitment to provide $200 million of funding over four years to create an additional 20,000 apprenticeships and traineeships.
“I look forward to releasing further details regarding the Skilling South Australians program soon.”
The State Government is also introducing the following measures to further develop South Australia’s skilled workforce:
Working with industry to strengthen South Australia’s VET system, including giving industry a stronger voice through the re-establishment of Industry Skills Councils
- Building a $1 million welding simulator centre at the Regency Campus of TAFE SA
- Reforming the Subsidised Training List so that it is guided by industry and opening up funding contestability
- Establishing a new technical college in Adelaide’s western suburbs with a focus on defence
