A $1.5 million commitment by the Queensland Government will enable the maintenance of dredging in the mouth of Boyne River and sealing of the car park area at the Calliope River Boat ramp site.
Government support to undertake dredging of the Boyne River has been an ongoing request, and Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) Chairman, Leo Zussino, was pleased with the outcome by the current government.
“GPC has been liaising with the community and authorities regarding the removal of built up sediment from the Boyne River mouth for many years,” Mr Zussino said.
“The sealing of a car park area at the Calliope River Boat Ramp will also be a real benefit to boaties in the area.
“It is pleasing to be able to deliver those projects with the commitment of $1.5 million, and enable improved community access to the Boyne and Calliope rivers.”
The dredging project requires the removal of approximately 12,000m³ of sediment across a 15m wide channel, which has built up in the river mouth since 2011.
We are working with the appropriate government agencies to investigate suitable options for the removed material.
The maintenance dredging process is subject to a comprehensive approvals process by relevant authorities.
