The Victorian Government has announced $26 million in funding through the Greener Government Buildings program to boost solar power supplies and energy efficiency at hospitals and regional health services across the state.
The Greener Government Buildings program funds energy efficient upgrades in government buildings and was reinstated by the State Government in August 2016.
Minister for Finance, Robin Scott, said, “We’re taking action on climate change and driving down costs for our hospitals and health services.
“The Greener Government Buildings program is a win/win – it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, creates jobs and saves Victorians money.”
Up to $7 million will be allocated to Peninsula Health which operates Frankston Hospital.
These upgrades to Victorian hospitals are estimated to save more than $70 million over the life of the investments, and cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 20,000 tonnes each year.
The Victorian Government will continue to analyse health service energy use to determine which hospitals will benefit the most from solar panels and energy efficiency solutions.
Health services identified will then be eligible for loans to install energy efficiency technology. They will also have the opportunity to bulk buy solar panels through Health Purchasing Victoria to maximise benefits delivered through this initiative.
The Greener Government Buildings program further supports the growth of clean energy and technology industries – creating jobs and strengthening Victoria’s position as the centre of excellence for energy efficiency.
