Funding has been received for an $8.8 million project to improve road user safety and vehicle access at one of the most important intersections in Griffith, NSW, bringing a step closer to becoming a reality.
The Australian and NSW Governments have each allocated $4.4 million to upgrade the Burley Griffin Way and Irrigation Way intersection at Yoogali.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said, “The Yoogali Intersection is the meeting point of four major roads including Burley Griffin Way, Mackay Avenue, Irrigation Way and Kurrajong Avenue.
“This busy intersection has been identified as needing improvements.
“This multi-million project will involve widening the intersection to accommodate larger and longer vehicles, as well as upgrading and widening the rail level crossing.
“Investigation work is under way and is an all-important stage in the planning process to develop a concept design and final design for the intersection improvements.”
The spokesperson said the Yoogali Intersection upgrade will result in improved road user safety, and light and heavy vehicle access.
Planning for the upgrade is expected to be completed by late 2018, with work expected to start in early 2019.
