AtkinsRéalis has announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec (WGA), bringing together global engineering capability with established regional expertise across Australia and New Zealand.
AtkinsRéalis is a global engineering, design and project management firm headquartered in Canada, delivering major infrastructure, transport, energy and defence projects worldwide. WGA, by contrast, is a well-established Australia and New Zealand consultancy with more than 40 years of experience and a strong regional footprint, known for its practical, locally embedded approach to delivering infrastructure across sectors such as buildings, transport and resources.
The proposed acquisition will combine AtkinsRéalis’ international scale with WGA’s local knowledge and delivery experience, with a focus on supporting complex infrastructure programs across both countries.
WGA employs over 800 people and has built a strong presence delivering infrastructure across sectors including transport, buildings, defence, resources and energy.
The combined business is expected to expand technical capability and provide more integrated solutions for clients, particularly as demand grows for infrastructure across regional corridors, ports and marine environments, and renewable energy projects.
AtkinsRéalis Australia and New Zealand CEO, Tom Hasker, said the agreement comes at a time of increasing infrastructure investment.
“At a time when Australia is investing in the next generation of infrastructure, this agreement will help us collectively deliver projects and solutions that are connected, resilient and built for long-term performance at scale,” Hasker said.
“By combining WGA’s regional understanding with AtkinsRéalis’ specialist expertise and investment strength, we will be better positioned to support clients on increasingly complex programs.”
Ben Stapleton, Joint Managing Director of WGA, said the agreement would support the company’s next phase of growth.
“For more than 40 years, we’ve delivered practical, high-quality engineering solutions by being regionally embedded and building trusted partnerships with our clients,” Stapleton said.
“This agreement enables us to build on these strengths by connecting our team to broader technical expertise, global opportunities and investment, while maintaining alignment in culture and strategic priorities.”
The transaction is expected to be implemented through a scheme of arrangement under the Corporations Act, subject to shareholder, court and regulatory approvals, as well as customary closing conditions.
