The Gooding Drive roundabout upgrade, the final project in the Queensland Government’s Commonwealth Games network improvements package, is set to begin.
Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the $6.7 million works would improve safety and increase the roundabout’s capacity.
“The works include an extra lane on the east-west approach through the roundabout, new directional signs and a signalised intersection at Palm Meadows Drive,” Mr Bailey said.
“Civil Mining and Constructions (CMC) are carrying out the works, having completed emergency works on Pine Creek Road in the Gold Coast hinterland following ex-severe TC Debbie.”
Mr Bailey said other works from the Commonwealth Games network improvements package were on track to be completed or implemented by the 2018 games.
“Thousands of visitors are expected to converge on Queensland for the games, and I’m pleased to say more than 75 per cent of road improvement programs have already been completed.”
Mr Bailey said thousands of Gold Coast motorists were already benefiting from reduced travel times and improved safety.
“Early last year we started upgrading some of the Gold Coast’s major routes and choke points to ensure they were in good shape before, during and after the games,” Mr Bailey said.
“We’ve supported 166 direct jobs over the life of the six projects under the network improvements package.”
