Gladstone Regional Council has awarded a $2.45 million contract to complete stage one of the Harvey Road Intersection Upgrade Project at Clinton, Queensland.

QMC Group has been awarded the contract which incorporates the section of Harvey Road stretching 550m from the Dawson Highway roundabout to the C & K Clinton Community Childcare Centre.

The upgrade will improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety on the busy street via the installation of a signalised intersection adjacent to the Clinton State School entrance.

Dedicated turn lanes into the carpark will be provided along with upgrades to street lighting, and a dedicated bus bay will also be constructed for Kirkwood-bound buses.

Gladstone Region Mayor, Matt Burnett, said Council had worked with stakeholders, including the school, childcare centre, sporting groups and business owners, who would be affected by the expected significant disruption to vehicular and pedestrian movements for the duration of the project, and had also consulted with the Department of Main Roads and Ergon Energy during the design process.

“We consulted with schools, sporting groups and businesses in order to mitigate the difficulties caused by traffic disruptions, and will adopt a number of strategies, including the scheduling of some night works and maintaining access and exit points whenever possible, all in order to reduce disruptions,” Mr Burnett said.

“The safety of school students and everyone else accessing the area throughout the duration of the project will be paramount, with safe and clear access to be maintained wherever possible and temporary fencing in place to clearly define worksites and prevent unauthorised entry.”

Works are scheduled to start in October 2017 with completion expected by March 2018.

The project is jointly funded by the Queensland Government through the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS), and Gladstone Regional Council.
