The draft master plan for the expansion of the Hobart Airport has been released, with the developments allowing for higher passenger numbers and additional freight capacity.
The Hobart International Airport’s 2022 Draft Master Plan sets out a strong vision for expansion and growth.
The proposed development will cater for the current and projected growth of passenger numbers, in addition to realising the opportunities for it to become an important strategic hub for the nation in respect to Antarctic and Defence requirements.
The proposed upgrading of the runway surface will also allow larger aircraft that will increase the state’s attraction and capability from a freight and passenger perspective.
Upgrading the airport will potentially allow Tasmania to get more in-demand product to even more markets around the globe.
Tasmanian Premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said it is a fantastic sign of confidence in not only Tasmania’s world-class tourism industry, but also its booming trade and exports sector.
“Well done to Norris Carter and the team at Hobart Airport, and I look forward to the community consultation in the months ahead on this exciting development,” Mr Rockliff said.
“The Tasmanian Government will continue to work closely with Hobart International Airport management to realise this vision for the airport, which is one of the state’s most important assets.”
