By Gerard Nolan, AGM Head of Operations, Protective Services at Certis Security Australia

The transportation freight and logistics sector is of great importance and significance to Australia’s growth. However, due to COVID-19, the sector has felt a significant impact, like the majority of other industries. As a result, it is important security providers continue to work to protect the sector’s operations and innovate in the face of global and local challenges posed by the pandemic and other external factors.

Given transportation and logistics carries and delivers critical goods (whether relating to food, telecommunications, or otherwise), it is a highly regulated sector. As such, there are several certifications/requirements logistics handlers must adhere to, including:

  • Regulated Air Cargo Agent (RACA) Security Program
  • Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Certification
  • Chain of Responsibility (COR) Australia

Certis Security Australia is the leader in transport and logistics security services, with a deep understanding of the RACA, TAPA and COR Australia requirements. Using its expertise, Certis Security Australia  works with clients by supporting them to remain compliant using industry knowledge and the latest technologies.

Certis Security does this by understanding the latest guidelines set by governing bodies for supply chain compliance and applying the latest technologies to streamline solutions. This allows Certis Security to develop tailored solutions and offerings to ensure compliance. Here’s how Certis Security achieves this through its services.

Cargo screening

It’s imperative to understand what goods are being carried. This ensures no dangerous or illegal goods are being transported. The Certis Security team undergoes regular cargo screening training to upskill on the use of modern cargo screening technology and what to look for. Besides training programs, Certis also conducts regular audits to ensure sites are compliant.

High-value freight management

The transportation and logistics industry is often responsible for high-value freight that requires ‘special care’. As business enablers, Certis Security understands the needs of its clients and their clients.

Certis works with logistic providers to enforce additional restrictions for added protection. This includes reducing the number of people permitted in warehouses and assigning more guards, while providing additional security measures applying the use of hand-held and walk-through metal detectors as a preventable method for freight and asset protection.

Gatehouse management

Logistics providers are responsible for moving goods from A to B and are responsible for what happens in between. Gatehouse management reduces the level of risk they take on. This ranges from enforcing the wearing of personal protective equipment (such as hi-vis vests, safety boots, etc), providing vehicle checks (ensuring no hazardous materials are being taken in or out of sites), access control (managing visitors on-premises) and so on.

This allows logistics providers to account for who is on-site at any particular time, providing an easy method to investigate should anything go wrong.

Advanced technology and more

BOSS is Certis Security’s exclusive technology platform housed in a handy mobile app that integrates operations seamlessly to produce market-leading real-time reporting, coupled with modern analytical capabilities that support compliance requirements for suppliers in the transport and logistics sector. BOSS is backed by Certis Security’s 24/7 National Operations Centre to safeguard its services and ensure compliance, no matter the circumstances.

What makes Certis a trusted partner is its intimate understanding of keeping transport and logistics providers operational. What’s more, Certis understands the challenges they face in remaining compliant with RACA, TAPA, and COR Australia. By providing services that improve security and apply the latest technologies, Certis enables logistics organisations to focus on what they do best.
