The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has unveiled its new data collection system, a Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), with a formal review period to gather insights as the system is rolled out.
The system enables ship owners and managers to submit data, including fuel consumption, transport works, and trial metrics.
CII was developed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to measure the energy efficiency of ships above 5,000 gross tonnage and trading internationally.
During the period of review, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has invited Interested Member States and international organisations to collect data and submit information and proposals for CII system improvements.
ICS wishes to engage constructively with this process, and has invited ship owners and ship managers to submit data for the systems 2023 reporting period.
The review period is expected to be complete in 2026.
