The Victorian Government has completed safety upgrades to the Powell Street level crossing in Bendigo East, Victoria.
The crossing now has boom gates, flashing lights, bells and axle counters to improve safety for road users and passengers on V/Line trains that pass through the crossing.
Minister for Public Transport and Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, said the level crossing upgrade will significantly improve safety for motorists, passengers and the community.
“The Powell Street level crossing also provides an important link to the industrial estate, airport and residential areas in Bendigo East.”
As part of the Safer Country Crossings Program, the Victorian Government has upgraded 33 road level crossings across regional Victoria, with a further 19 expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
In addition, 25 pedestrian crossings across the state will be upgraded as part of the program, with 15 already complete.
An extra 28 weekly services were added to the Bendigo Line in 2017, giving people more choice on when they want to travel.
Detailed planning is also continuing for the $91 million upgrade and improvement works planned for the Bendigo Line, as part of the $1.57 billion Regional Rail Revival program.
The investment will pave the way for faster trains, an additional daily service to Echuca and stage two of Bendigo Metro.
