The Mid West Ports Authority (MWPA) has welcomed interim Chief Executive Officer Steve Lewis to the helm.
Mr Lewis stepped into the role on 9 April 2018, following the resignation of long-serving CEO Peter Klein in early April.
Recently returned to WA from managing ports in Queensland, Mr Lewis brings a wealth of knowledge to the position with over 19 years’ experience as a CEO in the public and private sectors.
Mr Lewis said it was a unique privilege to be able to join the MWPA at a time when the port is implementing strategies for future growth and development, including master planning.
“In my experience, a strong community with a strong port can achieve great outcomes.
“I look forward to continuing the MWPA’s positive contribution to the success of Geraldton and its surrounding communities.”
Mr Lewis has a long history in the port industry, as the former CEO of both the Dampier Port Authority and North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation, and has been a long-standing Board Director of Ports Australia.
During his eleven-year tenure with Dampier Ports, some of Mr Lewis’ notable achievements included assisting the port in growing their base turnover of $3.5 million in 2003 to $86.4 million in June 2014.
He also led improvements in customer service, which was recognised with the Dampier Port winning the Lloyds List DCN Australian Port of the Year in 2007.
While at the MWPA, Mr Lewis said there would be several key areas in his sights.
“I would be focused on ensuring that we enhance the capacity and capability of our dedicated workforce and we strive for continuous improvement in customer service and community satisfaction.
“We will also look to plan and implement strategies and investments that meet the current and future needs of our existing and future customers, and place the port of Geraldton in the best position to make its full contribution to the WA and national economy.
“I support the MWPA Board’s energy and commitment to the future opportunities of the Mid West region and I will be doing all that I can to create that future.”
