The South Australian state government has sought specialist advice as they establish Infrastructure SA.

Infrastructure Australia Chairmen Sir Rod Eddington and Hon Mark Birrell have been selected to sit on the Premier’s Advisory Group on the establishment of Infrastructure SA.

South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said, “Sir Rod Eddington and Mark Birrell bring a wealth of experience on the development of infrastructure and are playing a critical role in the establishment of Infrastructure SA.”

Sir Rod Eddington was the inaugural chair of Infrastructure Australia, serving from 2008-2014. A respected company director and Rhodes scholar, Sir Eddington has led a number of major independent reviews into government infrastructure and transport, including for the United Kingdom’s Blair Government and the Victorian Government in 2007.

The Hon Mark Birrell was a founding board member and Chairman of Infrastructure Australia from 2014-2017. Mark is a lawyer, company director and former senior minister in the Victorian Government, overseeing the transformation of Victoria’s infrastructure and planning in the 1990s.

The Premier’s Advisory Group on the establishment of Infrastructure South Australia has been convened to:

  • Review and advise the Premier on the proposed form, structure and function of Infrastructure SA
  • Assist the Premier on the initial statement of expectations for Infrastructure SA
  • Review and advise the Premier on the draft Infrastructure SA Bill 2018

“South Australia spends well over $1 billion a year on roads, ports and other productive infrastructure – the vast majority of that is government funded,” Premier Marshall said.

“Infrastructure South Australia will be an independent body that will develop a long-term State Infrastructure Strategy and ongoing infrastructure plans which prioritise major projects.”
