South Australia investing in a skilled workforce

The South Australia Government will invest $100 million through the Federal Government’s Skilling Australians Fund to help create 20,800 apprenticeships and traineeships in the state.

Minister for Industry and Skills, David Pisoni, said the State Government has started negotiations to access $100 million from the Commonwealth through this fund, and will match it with $100 million of State Government funds to grow the skilled workforce that South Australian industry requires into the future.

“By working closely with the Federal Government, we are aiming to be the first state to leverage off our $100 million investment to create more than 20,000 new places in the Vocational Education and Training system.

“Increasing South Australia’s skilled workforce is a key priority of the Marshall Government to grow jobs, and we want to ensure young people have more opportunities to secure careers and well-paying jobs here in South Australia.

“It would be a significant boost to South Australia’s skills base if we become the first state to access this commonwealth funding, and that’s why we have started leading the negotiations with the Federal Government and working on robust proposals in order to secure the funds.

“South Australians gave us a clear mandate to deliver more jobs, so skilling our workforce is critical. Our commitment to create an additional 20,800 apprenticeships and traineeships over the next four years will prepare our workforce for these new jobs.

“That’s why we are progressing our agenda for lower taxes and lower costs for businesses which complements our push for funding through the Skilling Australians Fund, so that there are more jobs created and more businesses are attracted to invest and set up in South Australia.”
