Inland Rail has invited locals to provide feedback on the latest designs of the Broadford-Wandong Road bridge, with construction set to begin later in 2025.

Inland Rail is replacing the bridge to provide sufficient height and width clearances to allow the safe passage of double-stacked freight trains.

Updated visualisations of the bridge highlight wider traffic lanes for motorists, safe pathways for cyclists and pedestrians, improvements to the Rail Street and the Epping-Kilmore Road intersections and an extension of the community garden.

Inland Rail – and construction partner John Holland – have commenced a month-long community engagement process to gather feedback on the latest designs.

The Broadford-Wandong Road designs can be viewed, and feedback shared until Monday 24 March 2025 by:

  • Dropping into the Inland Rail pop-up presence at Crumbs & Co cafe, from 10am–1pm every Monday
  • Visiting the Inland Rail website: inlandrail.info/Wandong2025
  • Talking to the Inland Rail team at the Magpie Stump Hotel (7 March 2025, 5.30–7.30pm) or outside the Wandong Primary School, St Michaels Church carpark (13 March 2025, 2.30–4.00pm)
  • Booking an appointment by phone: 1800 732 761 or email: inlandrailvic@inlandrail.com.au

Inland Rail B2A Manager Stakeholder Engagement and Communications, Justene Cowie, said the latest designs have incorporated previous community feedback, including improved safety at the Rail Street intersection and connecting pathways for pedestrians and cyclists.

“Pickett Walk and the community garden are also extended in the new designs,” she said.

“The Wandong community have played an important role to shape the plans for the bridge and surrounding areas and they will see their ideas and suggestions from previous community engagement in the updated designs.”
