Detailed designs for two major infrastructure upgrades near Broadford have been released, giving engineers and contractors a clearer view of the next phase of Inland Rail’s Beveridge to Albury section.

The project will see tracks lowered under the Hume Freeway at Tallarook and Seymour, and the full replacement of the Marchbanks Road bridge – upgrades needed to accommodate double-stacked freight trains along the north-south freight corridor.

To achieve the required clearance, tracks will be lowered between 1.5 and 2.1 metres beneath freeway overpasses. Civil works will extend up to a kilometre either side of the bridges to create compliant gradients for the taller rolling stock.

In Broadford, the existing Marchbanks Road bridge will be demolished and replaced on the same alignment. The new structure will feature greater height and width clearances, improving freight access and overall bridge functionality.

The works form part of a broader program to upgrade 12 sites between Beveridge and Albury to enable efficient interstate freight movement and improve supply chain resilience.

As the required machinery is mustered, Inland Rail Beveridge to Albury Delivery Director Ed Walker says community engagement is underway.

“We look forward to presenting the new visualisations and talking to the community over the next month,” he said.

“Project engineers will be available at all engagement sessions to answer any detailed or technical questions.”

Site visualisations can be viewed at the Broadford, Seymour and Tallarook webpages or by appointment – phone 1800 732 761 or email inlandrailvic@inlandrail.com.au
