ITS Australia has unveiled the list of finalists for the 15th Annual ITS Australia Awards, which honours excellence in the nation’s intelligent transport systems.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 13 February in Perth. This year’s 32 finalists span a diverse array of individuals and teams from across the country, competing in six award categories.

The awards recognise Australia’s leadership and innovation in transport technology and significant role in advancing global transport solutions.

ITS Australia President, Silje Troseth, reflected on the breadth of talent across the pool of nominees in 2024.

“The lineup of finalists in this year’s awards program is exceptional, showcasing a deep talent pool of individuals and teams from industry, government and academia working tirelessly to deliver a better transport future through the deployment of new technologies,” Ms Troseth said.

“The shortlisted projects represent an impressive and diverse range of transport technology solutions, ranging from C-ITS enabled vehicles trials to support vulnerable road users, to innovative mobility solutions focussed on suburban and remote transport disadvantage, and world-leading research projects with the potential to revolutionise traffic management. The innovation demonstrated by the finalists is remarkable and once again highlights our industry’s capacity to collaborate.”

The six award categories represent excellence across all facets of the burgeoning intelligent transport industry. The categories are the Smart Transport Infrastructure Award, Intelligent Mobility Award, Excellence in Transport Data Award, Excellence in Research and Development Award, Connected and Automated Vehicle Award and Young Professional Award.

In addition, the recipients of the prestigious Max Lay Lifetime Achievement Award and the inaugural Women of the Year Award will be announced in the coming weeks.

ITS Australia’s CEO, Susan Harris, said, “With the awards to be hosted in Perth for the first time in its fifteen-year history, it’s terrific to see several West Australian projects recognised amongst the impressive group of finalists, and that is testament to the strong ITS activity happening in the state.

“To enrich this milestone event, ITS Australia will also deliver the ‘WA ITS Showcase 2024,’ an educational program spotlighting Western Australia’s impressive transport technologies. Running on 12 and 13 February, this prelude to the awards ceremony offers East Coast visitors a unique chance to engage with Perth’s vibrant ITS landscape.”

The awards continue to enjoy the strong support of industry partners with iMOVE Australia again supporting the Excellence in Research and Development Award and Transurban returning for the third time as the sponsor of the Young Professional Award. Joining them as sponsors in 2025 is Q-Free Australia, who are proudly supporting the first-ever Woman of the Year Award.

Finalists were selected by a judging panel of 24 professionals across the intelligent transport industry spanning the commercial sector, government and academia, ensuring an inclusive and comprehensive evaluation of excellence.

The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony at the Westin Hotel, Perth, on Thursday 13 February 2025, with the WA ITS Showcase running on 12 and 13 February.
