A new jumps park for riders and skateboarders of all ages has opened beneath CityLink in West Melbourne, supported by the West Gate Tunnel Project.

The Victorian Government-backed project has transformed previously underutilised space beneath CityLink, off Footscray Road, into a purpose-built recreation hub designed to support cycling skills development while strengthening connections across Melbourne’s inner west.

The park features a combination of jumps, skills and pump tracks catering to a range of ages and abilities, along with seating areas and landscaping for spectators and visitors.

Member for Footscray, Katie Hall, officially opened the park, highlighting its role as part of the broader benefits delivered through the West Gate Tunnel Project.

“The West Gate Tunnel Project has delivered enormous benefits for the inner west, and this new jumps park is a great example of what the project offers beyond the tunnel itself,” Hall said.

The park forms part of a wider program of open space delivery associated with the project, which has provided close to nine hectares of new parks and wetlands, converting formerly industrial land into accessible community spaces.

Improved access to the site has been delivered through a new ramp and bridge over Moonee Ponds Creek, connecting the park to the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and the Dixon Veloway along Footscray Road. The links integrate the park into Melbourne’s broader walking and cycling network, improving connectivity between the inner west, Docklands and the city.

“These kinds of spaces give young people and families a place to be active and build skills in a safe, well-designed environment,” Hall said.

The jumps park upgrades complement other recently completed active transport infrastructure delivered through the West Gate Tunnel Project, including the Federation Trail extension and a new walking and cycling bridge over the Williamstown Road exit of the West Gate Freeway.

The bridge connects the Federation Trail to the Hyde Street ramps, providing a safer and more direct route for people walking and cycling in Melbourne’s west.

In total, the West Gate Tunnel Project has delivered more than 14 kilometres of new and upgraded walking and cycling paths, supporting safer and more accessible everyday travel for local communities while enhancing recreational opportunities.
