The Australian Bureau of Statistics’s latest data indicates Tasmania is the leading state for construction work between September 2018-2019.
The statistics show a construction growth in Tasmania’s of 5.6 per cent in trend terms, while all other states experienced a decline in construction activity.
In the year to September 2019, residential building work was 11.5 per cent higher than the year before, making Tasmania the fastest growing state.
The data also outlined that, in the year to September 2019, the value of engineering construction work amounted to $1.632 billion, with Victoria making up the largest percentage of that at $339.9 million.
Construction work done in Victoria grew by $472.5 million in the September quarter while the national value decreased by $195.5 million over the same period.
Victoria was also the leading state in residential construction during the September quarter, recording a growth of $96.8 million.
Victorian Treasurer, Tim Pallas, said, “By investing in state-shaping infrastructure projects, we’re supporting the Victorian economy and creating jobs – 115,000 of them.”
