Initial works have commenced on the $176 million Linkfield Road Overpass upgrade at Bald Hills in Brisbane’s outer north.

Jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments, the project form’s part of the Federal Government’s $10 billion investment in safety and capacity improvements for the Bruce Highway.

When completed, the overpass clearance height will be increased from 4.7 to 6 metres and Linkfield Road will be upgraded to four lanes between the Gympie Road and Lacey Road intersections.

The project design also includes a new separated pathway for pedestrians, riders and other users, plus a new on-road cycle lane for bike riders.

The Federal Government has committed $125.5 million to the jointly funded project, with the Queensland Government contributing $50.5 million.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King, said, “I look forward to major works beginning onsite and to delivering this upgrade, which will reduce congestion and improve safety and freight access.”

Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Bart Mellish, said, “With the start of underground utility relocations, we are seeing the next steps towards construction of this significant piece of infrastructure.

“We are delivering transport solutions for Northside residents that reduce congestion and provide better connections for their communities.”

Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Senator for Queensland Anthony Chisholm, said, “It’s great to see the early works beginning on the Linkfield Road Overpass upgrade, which will see a safer and more convenient link delivered for motorists in this part of Brisbane’s growing northern suburbs.

“We understand that as Queensland continues to grow, our infrastructure needs to keep up with this demand. This upgrade of the Linkfield Road Overpass forms part of our government’s $20 billion pipeline of infrastructure projects across Queensland.”
