Major Queensland overpass opening

The Deagon Deviation overpass is now open, improving safety and efficiency for drivers in the Queensland based region.

Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities, Paul Fletcher, said the $1.14 billion jointly funded project was on track for completion later this year.

“The Deagon Deviation overpass is one of the largest of 13 structures being built or widened as part of this major project, which will see the motorway widened to three lanes in each direction between Nudgee and Deagon,” Mr Fletcher said.

“The overpass completion marks a significant construction milestone for the project.”

Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey, said the opening of the new Deagon Deviation significantly improved safety for motorists.

“The Deagon section of the motorway has a poor crash record, highlighting the need for significant safety improvements,” Mr Bailey said.

“We are advising motorists that in conjunction with the opening of the Deagon Deviation overpass, the project would involve closing the northbound Sandgate Road on-ramp to the motorway at Boondall.

“Building this new dedicated overpass and the new grade-separated connection greatly improves safety for motorists by eliminating weaving and merging on the motorway, as well as increasing capacity by separating local traffic from motorway traffic.”

The Gateway Upgrade North project is jointly funded by the Australian Government ($914.18 million) and the Queensland Government ($228.54 million).
