Major construction has moved into the next stage of the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade in Wyndham Vale, with works now underway on the southern half of the Ballan, McGrath and Greens roads intersection.

The project is designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance safety at one of Wyndham Vale’s busiest intersections.

To facilitate the next phase of construction, traffic has been switched onto newly completed lanes, allowing crews to begin works on the southern side of the intersection.

As part of the traffic changes, McGrath Road north has reopened with left-in, left-out access only, while Greens Road and McGrath Road south at Ballan Road will remain closed until early 2027. Ballan Road will continue operating with one lane in each direction throughout most of the construction period.

Big Build Roads Deputy Program Director, Alec Say, said the project had reached a significant milestone.

“This upgrade will ease congestion and improve safety for the thousands of drivers, pedestrians and cyclists who use this busy Wyndham Vale intersection every day,” Say said.

“We know these works will cause some disruption, and we will seek to minimise disruption to the community as much as possible. We thank the community for their patience while we deliver this important upgrade.”

Access to nearby homes, businesses and essential services will be maintained throughout construction, while pedestrian, cyclist and public transport detours remain in place.

The Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade is expected to improve traffic movements and reliability for road users travelling through the growing Wyndham Vale community.
