Melbourne’s Cranbourne Line Upgrade is one year ahead of schedule, allowing an additional 50 services per week to run from the station beginning in 2022.
The Cranbourne Line Upgrade includes 8km of new duplicated track between Dandenong and Cranbourne, eliminating bottlenecks and allowing trains to run every ten minutes on average in the morning peak.
Combined with a new Merinda Park Station and three level crossing removals, the $1 billion Cranbourne Line Upgrade will deliver more frequent and reliable services on one of Melbourne’s busiest train lines, as well as better flowing traffic and improved safety.
The new timetable includes 30 peak services extended from Westall or Dandenong to Cranbourne each week.
Another 20 daytime services will be extended to and from Cranbourne, while five non-peak services will be extended to Pakenham each week. These services will begin on Sunday 13 February, 2022.
The track duplication works will also reduce the need for trains to sit idle at Lynbrook and Dandenong stations to wait for a single line to clear. This will save up to eight minutes in layover time at Dandenong and Lynbrook on all weekday services.
An additional 160 services will stop at Malvern Station each week as part of the changes to give passengers more options.
To allow crews to complete the track duplication and carry out works on the Clyde Road, Berwick level crossing removal, buses will replace trains on sections of the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines from 8.30pm Tuesday 11 January to last service Sunday 6 February.
Major works will take place during this time around Dandenong Station, Merinda Park Station, Lynbrook Station and Cranbourne Station.
The Cranbourne and Pakenham lines will be level crossing-free by 2025 and passengers will also reap the benefits of direct trains to Melbourne Airport, along with a new Clayton super hub linking to new stations at Monash University and Glen Waverley.
The Victorian Government is removing 85 level crossing by 2025, with 56 already gone for good.
