The Western Australian Government will fund a multi-deck car park at the future Forrestfield Station to open up space for a future METRONET precinct.
A contract variation means the new multi-deck car park will replace original plans for a sprawling ground-level car park.
The multi-storey car park for 1200 vehicles will be built on land bordered by Maida Vale Road and Ibis Place, unlocking about eight hectares of land to be made available for the future METRONET precinct.
The plan is supported by the City of Kalamunda which is developing its Forrestfield North District Structure Plan.
The METRONET team is liaising with the City on its vision for the area, which will include determining density levels and plans for mixed-use development.
The revised car park plan will be delivered under a contract variation with SI-NRW. It will cost about $32 million and will be accommodated within the project’s contingency budget.
The project is an important step in improving public transport options for the eastern suburbs.
By 2021, the Forrestfield-Airport Link is expected to generate 20,000 passenger trips every day – increasing to 29,000 daily by 2031.
