The Victorian Government is set to complete the Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 1 six months ahead of schedule, with additional lanes now open in Greenvale.

Additional lanes and improvements to key intersections will improve safety and ease congestion for the 25,000 drivers using the road daily.

The opening of the lanes recently gave drivers two lanes in each direction between Somerton Road and Dellamore Boulevard in Greenvale.

The Victorian Government has also opened all slip lanes at Hillview Road, Lemonwood Drive, Greenvale Gardens Boulevard, Dellamore Boulevard and Aitken College.

For the intersection upgrade, new traffic lights were switched on at Somerton Road after removing the old roundabout. This allows better traffic-flow management, which will help improve safety and reduce congestion. The lights can also be adjusted remotely in real time to maximise traffic flow in response to current traffic conditions.

The intersection upgrade also delivered priority bus lanes and a pedestrian crossing, further boosting traffic flow and safety.

In December 2024, the project team will open an additional lane in both directions between Somerton Road and Dellamore Boulevard. This opening will mark the end of major works on the project, with drivers then able to use all two lanes in both directions.

Lane and road closures will continue at certain times in the following weeks as crews complete finishing works including final asphalt layers and landscaping.

Stage 1 also includes new sections of shared walking and cycling path to improve connectivity on Mickleham Road.

Planning and development work is underway to inform the potential Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 2, between Dellamore Boulevard and Craigieburn Road.
