Southbound lanes along the Mount Lindesay Highway in Queensland have been reopened to the public in a major milestone for the $75 million upgrade project.

The $75 million Mount Lindesay Highway Stoney Camp Road to Chambers Flat Road upgrade is jointly funded on a 50:50 basis between the Federal and Queensland Governments and is scheduled for completion in late 2022.

The project will widen the highway from two to four lanes, build new northbound and southbound bridges across Norris Creek, install safety upgrades and improve fauna connectivity and protection.

The works are estimated to support an average of 80 direct jobs over the life of the project.

Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey, said the project continues to deliver tangible benefits to both communities and commuters.

“Building more Mount Lindesay Highway can only mean good news for local drivers, who now have access to new southbound lanes and Norris Creek bridge,” Mr Bailey said.

“The project has placed more than 22,500t of asphalt, 9000m2 of foamed bitumen and 12km of guardrail across the upgrade to date.

“What’s better is the level of training and upskilling that continues to be delivered by this project – that’s opportunities for locals that otherwise wouldn’t exist.

“More than 9000 apprentice and trainee training hours have been undertaken, exceeding the project’s initial commitment by 285 per cent.

“That’s big – big news for drivers, suppliers and the local economy alike.”
