A new six megalitre water reservoir being built in Logan City in Queensland is one step closer to completion after a concrete slab was poured in early March 2018.
Logan City Council City Roads and Water Committee Chairman, Phil Pidgeon, said it was a mammoth task for the Logan Water Infrastructure Alliance (LoganWIA).
“We’re future proofing water supplies for the Logan Village and Yarrabilba communities by not only building this new reservoir, but also by doing earthworks for a third reservoir that is planned for construction by 2031,” Mr Pidgeon said.
“The first reservoir at the site holds three megalitres, and this new one will hold six megalitres, so we’ll be storing the equivalent of almost four Olympic swimming pools at the site very soon.”
Fifteen concrete trucks visited the site 36 times to deliver concrete with 245 cubic metres of reinforced concrete in the slab.
A 48m concrete boom pump was used to pour the concrete, with 24 workers involved in pouring, finishing and testing the slab.
It took five hours to pour the slab, and another three hours to finish the concrete after it was placed.
The new reservoir will be completed in 2018.
