The Victorian Government has installed 12 new level access tram stops in Melbourne’s CBD.
Level access tram stops have been installed along La Trobe Street in both directions at Docklands Stadium and the intersections with Spencer Street, William Street, Elizabeth Street, Swanston Street and Exhibition Street.
The new stops feature new shelters, seating, improved lighting and passenger information displays, and separate pedestrians from cars to improve safety and provide more space for passengers.
The new stop locations will also provide better connections to the State Library Station when the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025, making it faster and easier to change between train and tram services.
Since 2014, the Labor Government has delivered 98 level-access tram stops, in addition to making the largest ever investment in new trams in Australia, with $1.85 billion to build 100 low-floor Next Generation G Class Trams and a new tram maintenance and stabling facility.
Victorian Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams, said, “Melbourne’s historic tram network is now better and more accessible than ever thanks to our record investments in new trams and infrastructure.
“We’re delivering more level-access tram stops to make it safer and easier for all passengers to get to where they need to go.”
