A construction manager from Queensland has won the 2019 National Crystal Vision Award, the highest honour bestowed by the National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC).
Cris Munoz, a Construction Manager for Queensland Multiplex, was presented the award at the Victorian Awards for Excellence ceremony last Friday.
Open to Crystal Vision Award Winners from each state and territory, the National Crystal Vision Award is the highest honour bestowed to an Australian NAWIC individual or corporate member.
Since winning the 2018 Queensland Crystal Vision Award, Ms Munoz has used her influence to develop a program that will improve female retention rates and increase the number of women in senior management roles in the industry.
Ms Munoz is also a role model, diversity champion and mentor and is actively involved in advocating for women with numerous associations in the construction industry.
The judges congratulated Cris on her outstanding leadership, advocacy and her commitment to driving much needed change within the industry.
Upon the announcement, Ms Munoz said she was honoured to stand alongside the many talented women that the NAWIC awards recognise across the country.
“Construction is such a dynamic and exciting industry to work within and I’m passionate about making sure women have access to the opportunities and the support they need to fulfil their career aspirations.”
NAWIC National Board Member, Christina Yiakkoupis, praised Ms Munoz’s contribution to the construction industry.
“Organisations in the construction industry need to be paying attention to incredible women like Cris Munoz. Cris isn’t sitting back and accepting the industry as it is with low representation of women, especially in senior management roles, but is instead leading change through positive initiatives,” Ms Yiakkoupis said.
A Highly Commended Award was also presented to businesswoman and influencer, Mary Linnell. Mary, the Founder and Managing Director of Easy Glass Services, based in Darwin, works to inspire and motivate women and girls to pursue a construction career through mentoring, speaker engagements and ongoing advocacy work.
NAWIC is an Australian not-for-profit organisation formed in 1995 whose mission is to champion and empower women in the construction and related industries to reach their full potential. NAWIC provides a forum for its members to meet and exchange information, ideas and solutions.
The association offers members an opportunity to expand personal and business networks, maintain awareness of industry developments, improve skills and knowledge, and contribute to other women in the construction industry.
