The 11th Annual Victorian Transport Infrastructure Conference will play host to new and returning speakers on the 1-2 May 2019 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. Playing host to numerous industry experts, this year’s event will focus on major infrastructure projects that are “Transporting Victoria Forward”.
In 2018 Melbourne’s population exceeded 5 million and is currently positioned as Australia’s fastest growing city. But in order to adequately serve this growing community, the city must maintain a certain level of liveability, sustainability and affordability.

Chief Executive of VicTrack, Campbell Rose, will present on day one of the event on Developing Above Melbourne’s Rail Corridors: The Challenges and the Opportunities. Exploring some of the challenges faced and opportunities presented, Mr Rose will discuss the possibilities available for Melbourne and the State of Victoria.
In a similarly focused presentation, Ian Sturdy, Project Director – High Capacity Metro Trains Project, will examine the key benefits of Melbourne’s next-generation trains.
Designed to hold 20 per cent more passengers, at 160m long with seven carriages, the new high capacity metro trains will initially be deployed on the Cranbourne and Pakenham line in mid-2019, eventually running through the Metro Tunnel to Sunbury.
Sturdy will explore the project’s position in addressing the city’s growing congestion on the metropolitan rail network, delivering a smoother, quieter and more comfortable ride.
With a State investment of $2.3 billion the project will provide improved passenger safety, accessibility and with its improved signalling, the lines will provide more frequent turn-up-and-go service.
Newly appointed Victorian Minister of Transport Infrastructure, Jacinta Allan, will provide a ministerial address on the morning of day two, providing delegates with a glimpse into future state projects that will ease congestion on Victorian roads and tackle the needs of a growing state.
