A $20 million asphalt plant has been launched in Western Sydney, with the plant expected to bring 50 permanent jobs to the area.
NSW Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts, said the announcement of State Asphalts NSW’s facility in St Marys is significant for Western Sydney. The new facility will produce transport material and asphalt.
“State Asphalts NSW has delivered thousands of tons of asphalt for thousands of kilometres of road throughout NSW, including the Hume Highway, the Great Western Highway, Camden Valley Way and even through Centennial Parklands,” Mr Roberts said.
“It’s an unsung hero of the infrastructure revolution we’ve been driving throughout this state in recent years. Without high-quality asphalt to cover the roads we’re building, our progress would be stalled.
“Our record spending of $87.2 billion on infrastructure in the next four years means businesses like State Asphalts NSW and many others in Western Sydney can be confident about their investment in this great region.”
Mr Roberts said in 2016–17, Roads and Maritime Services spent $3.87 billion to deliver major road transport projects and programs across NSW, with 20 major road projects in delivery.
“It’s this kind of commitment that’s helping businesses like State Asphalts NSW invest and grow,” he said.
“As the Greater Sydney Commission’s vision of a Metropolis of Three Cities becomes a reality, momentum is building quickly around Western Sydney.
“The new Aerotropolis will be like building a city the size of Hobart in our west.
“We want local companies to be part of this growth and success and the Kypreos Group, through their State Asphalts NSW division, is testament to how we’re working with local businesses to build the future of this state.
“The new plant here in St Marys is capable of round-the-clock operations, producing 300 tonnes of asphalt per hour.
“The investment being announced today will generate jobs and training opportunities for the people of Western Sydney, and it signals another vote of confidence in the region’s future by a world-class company.”
The company’s chairman, George Kypreos, said, “The NSW Government’s commitment to building infrastructure, particularly in Western Sydney, has boosted business confidence for the future, allowing firms to make major investment decisions.”
