The last of three new state-of-the-art bus depots is now open in Thomastown, as part of the Victorian Government’s $40 million investment in new depots.

The Victorian Government’s investment supports Transdev bus services, which operate around 30 per cent of Melbourne’s bus network.

The new$8.6 million facility in Thomastown will bring better support and bus services for passengers in Melbourne’s north.

The depot on High Street will be home for 50 buses operating on Smart Bus routes 901 and 902 – two of the most popular on the network.

It includes facilities for 100 Transdev staff and huge tanks to capture 81,000 litres of rainwater that will be used to wash buses.

New bus depots have already been built in Heatherton and Sunshine West.

The Victorian Government is investing $100 million to improve bus services across Melbourne –  including new and expanded routes to meet demand growth areas.

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Transport Ros Spence said, “We’re making buses better, with new routes and services to carry more people as Melbourne grows.

“New depots like these will support better bus services on some of our most popular routes, getting them home safer and sooner every day.”

Member for Thomastown Bronwyn Halfpenny said, “This new state-of-the-art facility in Thomastown will benefit passengers across Melbourne’s north.

“It will house 50 buses, 100 staff and support thousands of passengers every day.”
