Darwin Port has officially welcomed new CEO, Peter Dummet, following his appointment to Acting CEO three months ago.
Peter joined Darwin Port Corporation in 2011 as General Manager Port Development and has continued in that role since the leasing of the Port by Landbridge in 2015.
Non-Executive Director Darwin Port, Terry O’Connor, welcomed Peter to the role and praised Peter’s significant maritime experience and extensive knowledge of the Northern Territory business sector.
“I am very pleased to announce Peter Dummett as Darwin Port’s new CEO,” Mr O’Connor said.
“Peter will be a solid leader for the Port, with his extensive knowledge and experience in maritime, shipping, trade and logistics.”
Peter began his career serving at the Royal Australian Navy for 20 years, where he developed an interest in commercial shipping. Peter then moved on to various roles in the shipping industry including Regional Development Manager with Swire Shipping.
In his role at Swire, Peter was involved in the promotion of the Northern Territory Government’s AustralAsian trade initiative, which required significant on ground collaboration between the Territory, Swire Shipping and Port of Darwin.
During this time, Peter served as a member of the executive of the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce International Business Council for four years, which included two years as Deputy Chairperson.
Peter then joined Perkins Shipping as Coastal Trades Manager where he was responsible for contract management of agreements between Perkins and Rio Tinto, GEMCO and Woolworths.
Peter continued in this role following the acquisition of Perkins by Toll before joining the Port team in 2011.
“We remain committed to the Northern Territory, and I look forward to working with Peter, his team, the Northern Territory Government and industry stakeholders to develop and grow trade in the Territory,” Mr O’Connor said.
