New clearways aimed at improving traffic flow will be installed along Cumberland Highway between Constitution Hill and Liverpool in Western Sydney.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the clearways were being installed as part of the $121 million Clearways Program, which aimed to reduce delays and congestion by maximising use of existing road space.
“The Cumberland Highway is a major freight and transport corridor and forms part of the A28 route through greater Western Sydney,” the spokesperson said.
With up to 3400 vehicles using the road every hour during peak times, stopping and parking restrictions are already in place along most of the corridor.
Installing north and southbound clearways improves congestion management as it gives authorities the ability to tow parked cars blocking traffic.
“These new clearways, each about 16km long, mean the NSW Government has now delivered more than 152km of new and extended clearways since the end of 2013.”
The clearway will be in effect from Monday 12 December 2016 between 6am and 7pm on weekdays and between 8am and 8pm on weekends.
Work will be carried out to install clearway signage until Sunday 11 December 2016, weather permitting.
