FedEx has opened a new logistics facility in Bundaberg, Queensland, aimed at strengthening freight connections across regional Queensland and improving access to domestic and international markets for local businesses.
The purpose-built 5,962-square-metre facility will service the Wide Bay-Burnett region, supporting industries including agriculture, manufacturing, seafood production and e-commerce.
Located near Bundaberg Airport and the region’s growing industrial precinct, the facility is designed to improve operational efficiency and network reliability while helping businesses access faster and more reliable freight services.
The site features an automated conveyor system capable of sorting up to 1,500 packages per hour, reducing processing times by up to 30 per cent. Dedicated trailer zones and streamlined Brisbane-to-Bundaberg linehaul routes are also expected to improve freight handling efficiency.
FedEx regional vice president for Australasia, Peter Langley, said the investment would strengthen the company’s regional network while supporting local businesses.
“This investment marks an important step in strengthening our network across regional Australia and deepening how we support local businesses,” Langley said.
“By bringing faster, more reliable services closer to customers in Bundaberg and the surrounding region, we are enabling regional enterprises, from family farms to small businesses, to access global markets with the same speed and confidence as their metropolitan competitors.”
Bundaberg Region Mayor, Helen Blackburn, welcomed the facility, describing it as an important milestone for the region’s economic growth.
“This new FedEx facility is a significant milestone for the Bundaberg region,” Blackburn said.
“This direct infrastructure investment into the Bundaberg Region will strengthen supply chain capability, support local employment, and create new economic opportunities not only for our community but the greater Wide Bay area.”
