An experienced executive has been appointed as the new Secretary of Transport for NSW.
The former CEO (Group Executive) of Virgin Australia Airlines, Rob Sharp, has been appointed to the position.
NSW Minister for Transport and Roads, Andrew Constance, said Mr Sharp is a proven CEO and senior executive with over 30 years of customer, commercial and operational experience.
“I am so pleased Mr Sharp has accepted the position of Transport Secretary. He comes into the role with a wealth of experience from across multi-brand, multi-cultural environments, backed by an extremely strong record of success,” Mr Constance said.
“Mr Sharp is the perfect person to lead the agency in a new direction with his experience in performing successful business turnarounds and transformational change.
“He comes with a unique blend of specialist industry experience across transport, professional services and technology sectors.
“Mr Sharp’s impressive skill set is underpinned by strategic thinking, digital innovation, logistics excellence and delivering large scale, complex projects.”
NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Paul Toole, said Mr Sharp’s deep transport industry knowledge and experience serving and developing regional centres will drive great results for the state’s transport and road projects.
“Mr Sharp’s extensive experience and wide-ranging industry knowledge will play a critical role as we deliver our record infrastructure pipeline,” Mr Toole said.
“I look forward to working with him as we continue to build stronger transport connections and a safe, modern road network in the regions.”
Mr Sharp said he was looking forward to the new opportunities and honoured to be leading the team at Transport for NSW when he starts on April 7.
“My passion for the transport sector is well known and I am thrilled to be confirmed as the next Transport Secretary in this really exciting time delivering a multi-billion dollar infrastructure program, with a renewed focus on technology and innovation,” Mr Sharp said.
The NSW Government also confirmed that the Board of Sydney Metro has appointed Peter Regan PSM as the new Chief Executive of Sydney Metro.
“Mr Regan has an outstanding track record delivering major infrastructure projects for the people of NSW over the last ten years,” Mr Constance said.
“I have full confidence that Mr Regan will bring his wealth of experience to the operation of the Metro North West Line and the delivery of the Sydney Metro City and Southwest, Sydney Metro West and Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport projects.”
Mr Regan joins Sydney Metro – Australia’s biggest public transport program – having previously served as both the Deputy Secretary, Infrastructure and Place Division and Deputy Secretary, Finance and Investment Division at Transport for NSW.
