The NSW Government has appointed a new Point to Point Transport Commissioner to replace inaugural Commissioner, Barbara Wise PSM.
Anthony Wing has been selected as the new commissioner and will commence in the role from 1 July 2019.
The NSW Government was one of the first governments in Australia to reform the point to point transport industry to allow ridesharing companies to operate legally.
The Point to Point Transport Commissioner administers legislation relating to taxis and hire vehicles, including rideshare, and is responsible for authorisation and licencing schemes, and recommending safety and standards for passenger and booking services.
Minister for Transport and Roads, Andrew Constance, said Mr Wing brings significant experience in transport policy having held senior roles, including in policy and legislation, at Transport for NSW.
“As a proven regulator with deep experience in transport reforms, I am delighted that Anthony Wing has accepted the role of Point to Point Transport Commissioner.
“During his time at Transport for NSW, Anthony played a leading role in helping the NSW Government reduce red tape by reforming the laws and regulation applying to drivers and vehicles in NSW, including point to point transport services.
“Anthony was previously a General Manager in the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, responsible for customer prices and cost-of-living, as well as transport competition and access.”
Ms Wise, who has been in the role of Commissioner since October 2016, will continue to support the delivery of the NSW Government’s record levels of investment in transport and road infrastructure at Transport for NSW.
“Barbara Wise has ensured safety is a key priority for all providers and that riders feel safe as they utilise point to point transport options,” Mr Constance said.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Paul Toole, thanked Ms Wise for her contribution to the transport sector throughout NSW, including in regional NSW.
“Barbara has made an exceptional contribution to the modernisation of transport service delivery in NSW. Through her leadership, the NSW Government has been supporting the transition of the industry into the 21st century.
“I am delighted her expertise will be retained by Transport for NSW in a new role supporting regional transport outcomes, a position where I have no doubt she will continue to excel.”
