The Rail Technology Campus in Chullora is set to receive a new Digital Systems Facility, built specifically to support the integration of future technologies across Sydney’s train network.
The facility will allow new digital technologies to be tested and integrated in a simulated environment without disruptions to the rail network and is part of the $831 million first stage investment to transform the Sydney Trains network.
Digital Systems will replace legacy signalling and train control technologies with modern, internationally proven, intelligent systems.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the technology is a key enabler towards achieving the goals of Future Transport 2056, delivering increased capacity and significant performance as well as providing cost and safety benefits for both passenger and freight services.
The Digital Systems Program is the next phase of the More Trains, More Services program and includes:
- Replacing trackside signalling equipment with the latest European Train Control System Level 2 technology, providing faster and more consistent journey times
- Introducing a Traffic Management System for more effective service regulation and incident management across the network.
The new facility will also showcase key features of Digital Systems technology and provide learning and development areas for staff.
The Digital Systems Facility is planned to be completed and operational by the end of 2021 with expressions of interest now open.
