Heavy vehicle drivers travelling through the Upper Hunter will have easier access to rest areas following the installation of 10 new green reflector sites along key freight routes.
The NSW Government has added the new markers along sections of the Golden Highway and New England Highway to help truck drivers identify suitable stopping locations, particularly during night-time driving and poor visibility conditions.
The reflector sites are located near Denman, Mount Thorley and Warkworth on the Golden Highway, and at several locations between Ardglen, Liddell, Muswellbrook, Wingen and Murulla on the New England Highway.
The initiative is designed to support fatigue management by providing a simple visual cue that a nearby rest area is available for drivers needing to stop, rest, sleep or check their loads.
The latest rollout follows the installation of 14 green reflector sites across southern New South Wales last year and forms part of a broader program to improve safety and rest opportunities for heavy vehicle operators.
The work is being delivered through the NSW Government’s $11.9 million Heavy Vehicle Rest Stop Minor Works Program, which is funding upgrades to rest areas across the state, including improved lighting, signage, pedestrian safety measures and amenities.
The NSW Government said it would continue working with industry to identify further opportunities to expand the reflector network and improve heavy vehicle rest facilities across NSW.
