Five major contractors have been shortlisted to become the Managing Contractor of the Newcastle Light Rail project.
Newcastle Light Rail involves the construction of 2.7km of light rail track from the new transport interchange at Wickham to Pacific Park.
Qualified organisations were asked to register their interest in early 2016 for the Fixed Infrastructure Contract (also known as Managing Contractor) for the light rail project.
The shortlisted organisations include:
- CPB Contractors
- Downer EDI Works
- John Holland
- Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction
- McConnell Dowell Constructors (Aust)
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said the respondents all have either previous experience or are currently completing light rail construction projects.
“The NSW Government is committed to delivering a world-class light rail system in Newcastle and the five organisations selected have the right experience and expertise to help us do so,” Mr Constance said.
“Their interest is an endorsement of our plans to revitalise Newcastle and shows the private sector understands our commitment to progressing this important project.”
Mr Constance said the short-listed firms would now submit a response to the government’s invitation to tender.
The NSW Government will then undertake a thorough assessment of their responses, before deciding on the successful tenderer.
The fixed infrastructure contract is expected to be awarded in late 2016.
