Construction is now underway on the $48.4 million Butler North Secondary School in Perth’s north, with earthworks completed, concrete slabs poured and steel frames in place on the nine-hectare site.

The school, on the corner of Santorini Promenade and Hollington Boulevard in Alkimos, is on track to open to Year 7 students in 2020 and will expand to a Years 7 to 12 secondary school by 2025.

Once completed, the first stage will deliver a range of single and double-storey classroom blocks, with purpose-built learning areas for science, design, information technology, and food and textiles.

An administration building and student services will also be completed, as well as a cafeteria and a range of sporting facilities, including an oval, four multi-purpose courts and cricket practice nets.

The project will support local jobs in construction, electrical, plumbing and painting trades, with the work being carried out by Perth-based company EMCO Building.

At the peak of construction, about 230 people will be working on-site including those in apprenticeships and traineeships.

The school is part of the State Government’s investment of $468.7 million to build and improve Western Australian public schools.

This investment in school infrastructure will help support jobs for Western Australians, and ensure students are learning in modern facilities that are well equipped to give their students the support they need.
