The North Queensland Airports (NQA) Board has appointed Norris Carter as its new Chief Executive Officer commencing December 2016.

The appointment follows the resignation of Kevin Brown in April 2016 who left to take up the role of Chief Executive at Perth Airport.

NQA in conjunction with an Executive Search firm conducted a global executive search before selecting Mr Carter.

NQA Board Chairman Ross Rolfe said that the Board was delighted that Mr Carter had agreed to accept the role.

“We interviewed a broad range of candidates who were excited by the opportunity that the role of Chief Executive of NQA presents,” Mr Rolfe said.

“We were very impressed by the strong field of applications we received. Norris was, however, the stand out candidate with not only a long history within the airline industry but also more recently in airport operations.”

Mr Carter is currently General Manager Aeronautical Commercial at Auckland Airport, where he is responsible for the sustainable growth of the vital air services that fuel New Zealand tourism and trade.

Before joining Auckland Airport, Mr Carter spent 14 years at Qantas. He led strategy, network planning and revenue management for the airline’s international operations, and played a leading role in the growth of its frequent flyer business.

He spent the early part of his career with IBM and The Boston Consulting Group.

Norris Carter holds a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Adelaide, and an MBA from the University of NSW.

Mr Carter has represented Auckland Airport on the NQA board for the last 12 months.

“During his time on the NQA Board Norris has deeply impressed us with his knowledge of the airline industry and airport operations,” Mr Rolfe said.

“We are excited by the experience that Norris brings to the role and believe he is the ideal candidate to drive future growth in the business by attracting new services to Cairns and Mackay airports as well as continuing to support our existing customers to grow their businesses.

“We are very much looking forward to working with Norris to achieve new growth in our business that will benefit the communities we serve.”
