Bigge Street at Warrick Farm along the Hume Highway in NSW is now open to traffic, following the completion of an upgrade.

NSW Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons, said the work was delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $225 million Pinch Point Program which aims to reduce traffic delays, manage congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s major roads.

“This is excellent news for the more than 50,000 vehicles which travel through this intersection daily to connect with Liverpool Hospital, train station and the CBD,” Ms Gibbons said.

Ms Gibbons said the improvement works to widen the western side of Bigge Street to provide an additional northbound lane started last 2016 and enabled the provision of two dedicated right turn lanes into the Hume Highway.

“Work was also carried out to provide a dedicated left turn lane onto the Hume Highway for westbound vehicles, as well as a dedicated left turn lane and shoulder on the southern side of the Hume Highway into Bigge Street for vehicles traveling toward the Liverpool CBD.

Ms Gibbons said some changes were also made to ‘No Stopping’ zones along the Hume Highway and Bigge Street to assist traffic flow and increase traffic capacity.

“These improvements mean motorists will now be able to experience a smoother journey through one of the busiest intersections at Warwick Farm,” Ms Gibbons said.

“By providing a dedicated left turn lane on the Hume Highway into Bigge Street, traffic flow for motorists traveling toward the M5 Motorway and Casula will be improved and the risk of rear end crashes reduced.

“Improvement work was carried out at this intersection to increase capacity as well as reduce congestion and delays for motorists.”

Ms Gibbons said with the the improvements will be a “game-changer” for the thousands of motorists who travel through this key intersection each day.
