NSW roads funding boost

The NSW Government has provided about $27 million in funding for key road infrastructure in Schofields to deliver new homes in the area sooner.

The $33 million project is being funded by the State Government’s Housing Acceleration Fund (HAF) initiative to accommodate future traffic growth, in partnership with Blacktown City Council, who will contribute the remainder of the funds and manage the design and construction of the project.

NSW Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts, said the improved infrastructure in the area would have many benefits to the community.

“The NSW Government’s $27 million funding coupled with $6 million from council will support the delivery of up to 8500 new homes within what is known as the Alex Avenue precinct,” Mr Roberts said.

“The road will be widened to a wonderful four-lane divided road from Stanhope Parkway and Burdekin Road through to Schofields Road.

“When completed, the new road corridor will improve essential transport linkages, including public transport, with regionally significant access to a new Schofields Railway Station which is set to become a major transport node in the system.”

The Housing Acceleration Fund was established in 2012 and has already seen almost $1.5 billion set aside for projects to fund infrastructure such as roads, transport, water and electricity to accelerate housing supply.

Member for Riverstone, Kevin Conolly, welcomed the upgrade to support the growing community.

“First home buyers identify this area as an opportunity to create a home for their families and it’s a really positive sign that we are seeing an investment in infrastructure,” Mr Conolly said.

“The road works will make life easier for residents, improving the journey between home and school or home and work for many families.”

Mayor of Blacktown City, Stephen Bali, said his council was delighted to receive funding to enable this important project to go ahead.

The project is due to be completed by the end of 2019.
