Five ports from across the Pacific region have signed on as the newest external associate members of Ports Australia. The move is a step forward in connecting the ports and maritime sector across regions.
Fiji Ports Corporation Limited, Samoa Ports Authority, Solomon Islands Ports Authority, Lyttleton Port Company Ltd, and the Port of Napier have all signed as new members.
The new partnerships will unlock a line of communication between Australian and Pacific ports, which will enhance trade and strengthen the development of global regulation, driving the future of the industry.
Ports Australia’s relationship with these organisations will hold a strong focus on sustainability, which is desperately needed for the region’s industry, local communities, and natural environment.
Ports Australia’s Chief Executive, Mike Gallacher, is excited to have the organisations on board and bringing unique perspectives to the table.
“With so much happening in terms of growth and international relations across the Pacific at the moment, this move will provide solidarity for our region’s trade and maritime sector,” Mr Gallacher said.
“All ports are unique in the commodities they trade and the challenges that confront them. Sharing knowledge and experience is crucial as our region rapidly grows, both in freight and population.
“Each of our member ports benefit from the sharing of information, which enhances skill sets and adds to our overall impact in the industry, and the inclusion of these organisations will inject fresh, unique knowledge to that information pool.
