The Northern Territory Government has released a tender for the construction of the new $26 million Palmerston Police Station.
The project, which was fast-tracked and brought forward as part of government’s stimulus plan, will provide a 24 hour clock police presence for Palmerston and the rural area.
NT Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics, Nicole Manison, said the tender is for the construction of a police station, watch house and community hall.
“This is a job creating project that will help improve community safety,” Ms Manison said.
“This brand new facility will have the capacity to support up to 200 police officers into the future for the Palmerston and rural areas.
“It will also provide much-needed facilities for the community including a Community Hall that can be used by local groups and organisations, to create a safe and vibrant Palmerston community.
“The strategic location at the corner of Temple Terrace and Farrar Boulevard was chosen in consultation with Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services, to ensure it serves the needs of both Police and the community, enhancing response times and providing a visible presence in a prominent site.”
The tender is expected to be awarded in April 2018, with works to commence on site in May 2018.
